Beyond Levels: Strategies for Managing Multilevel ESL Classrooms
9 AM- 4 PM  ($100) Morning and Afternoon Beverage and Refreshments and Box Lunch included
Presenters:  Dr. Glenda Rose and V. Kay Vacarro (scroll down to see bios)

In this session, participants review best practices for managing a multilevel ESL classroom. Participants review why knowing students’ abilities, learning styles and goals is critical to a successful multilevel learning environment, and are provided with a teacher’s toolbox full of flexible strategies and activities that work with multi-level students. The importance of using a range of assessments to evaluate progress is also discussed. Participants learn how to create a “large group” multi-level lesson plan using the WIPPEAR model (Warm-up, Introduction, Present, Practice, Evaluate, Apply, Reflect).  In particular, the use of classroom “centers” is demonstrated and time is provided to discuss how the centers might be adapted to the session participants’ individual teaching contexts.

An Awesome Trio of Tech Tools: Remind, SeeSaw and Kahoot!
1 PM – 4 PM ($50)  Afternoon Beverage and Refreshments Included
Presenter:  Denise Guckert-von Ehren (scroll down to see bio)

Make technology work for you, the busy but dedicated ESL Instructor.  In this session, participants will have hands-on experiences using three free and amazing online technology tools.  Remind is a tool to safely communicate with your students.  Kahoot is a wonderful way to “play” your way to student pre-assessment, post-assessment, or a discovery learning process.  SeeSaw is an amazingly powerful tool that allows your students to easily upload work to a multi-media digital portfolio and classroom blog.  NONE of these tools require students to create usernames and passwords.  Rather, they either enter a pin number, text in a code, or scan a QR code to easily enter your cool technology classroom space.
